ALEA ENSEMBLE

Who we are

We are a string quartet that plays on original instruments and forms the core of an ensemble of varying combinations; like faces on dice, alea’s numbers can change.

In 2000, we decided to join paths in a wish to explore the chamber music repertory and performance practice of the Classical and Romantic periods.

What we play

We play instruments with historically informed set-ups and antique bows - or copies thereof - with details which reflect the ‘transitional’ period between the 1700 and 1800s.

This disc has made me quite curious about other parts of his oeuvre. I hope they are going to record some of it in the future. And if the quality of the duos on this disc is indicative for his whole output than string quartets should also have a look at it.
